Cultural Dances

25Aug

Ubud cultural dance performances have become synonymous with Bali. While some dances are meant to please the Gods during religious rites, performances like the Legong Dance are a treat for visitors to Ubud. These dances often depict tales from Hindu folklore like the Mahabarata and Ramayana. Balinese dances are as spectacular as they are captivating, co-ordinating eye, hands and feet in a series of quick movements. Dancers sparkle in elaborate gold embroidered costumes and head dresses, accompanies by the Gamelan and other percussive instruments that are quintessentially Balinese.

Heal Emotional Eating

25Aug

Katrina Love Senn wrote the book ‘Heal Emotional Eating for Good’ and is here in Bali to show you how to end the cycle and continue on with healthy habits that help build and restore your mind and body.

Emotional or stress eating is triggered when we are unhappy, anxious or feel bad about ourselves.

Eating to satisfy an emotional response does not end when you are physically satisfied. Dieting does not help as it is usually advisory on health and food choices.

Ending emotional eating is never easy. We have to do a lot of work on ourselves to understand our feelings, which isn’t easy.

Going away for a wellness and detoxification retreat can provide you with time and space to recognise why you stress-eat. While it may not result in a closure of emotional issues, it can be the first step toward ending emotional eating.

Juice Cleanse

25Aug

For those who would like to go full ‘Juice Cleanse’ this is an option available for your program.

Juice cleansing is an effective way to fast without going to extremes. Juices provide the body with absorbable nutrients it needs during the fast with enough calories to fuel the detox process.

A Juice cleanse gives your elimination system a chance to rest and recuperate from overworking. The liver and kidneys when given a rest will generally function better, and the body will use less energy trying to digest food it normally digests.

Juice cleansing has many benefits, including a general sense of feeling better to alleviating specific health conditions, and can be safely practised for up to a month under guided conditions.

Fasting Benefits

25Aug

While we do not practice full fasting for long periods of time or fasting only with water. We do advocate Intermittent Fasting which has been proven to be highly effective for weight loss, detoxification and overall health and wellbeing.

In these studies, study 1, study 2 & study 3 you can see the proven benefits of fasting for intermittent periods of time.

Fasting has also been shown to be great for keeping your body from aging at the cellular level – the part of a cell that is called the mitochondria cell.

Our bodies have cells, and within those cells are the mitochondria cells, which basically, are the energy powerhouses of the cells. 90% of energy created by our body is created by the mitochondria cells, be it energy in the brain cells, liver cells or anywhere else.

The mitochondria cell is like a digestive system within our cells, which converts all the food (ie, sugars, fat and protein) we eat into energy the body can use. The mitochondria cell essentially takes the food we eat and creates ATP (adenosine triphosphate) through the ATP synapse (an enzyme), which is like a motor within our cells that spins when positively charged electrons break through the outer membrane of the mitochondria and hits the ATP synapse which causes it to create energy and heat. The heat is how the body burns fat.

One other benefit, and a huge benefit, of intermittent fasting is that you secrete a higher and sustained level of growth hormone. Human growth hormone is produced in the pituitary gland of your brain and is at its highest level first thing in the morning because you’ve been fasting while asleep. The moment that you eat something, it stops.

When we were younger, we all noticed that we recovered a lot faster from any strenuous exercise the day before, and how we burned calories quicker and more efficiently. Human growth hormone is essential for recovery, cell growth and cell regeneration. This is the power of human growth hormones. So, when we fast, we secrete more human growth hormones which in turn help us maintain our body weight and live a healthier life.

Healing Spices

25Aug

Indonesia grows a large variety of herbs and spices known for their medicinal and healing properties. From the ancient Indonesian Jamu tradition to modern day usages, spices like ginger and tumeric combined with piperine (for increased absorption), are incredible for their health-giving and healing properties.

Parasite & Bacteria Blasters

25Aug

Give parasites a one-two punch by blasting bad bacteria with lemons, limes and spices such as garlic and cinnamon. These spices have anti-parasitic properties.

When we eat processed food, it is usually made with a lot of corn syrup and our body turns all sugars, starches, grains, and even fruit into glucose for digestion. Glucose feeds the normally occurring yeasts and parasites, which then causes them to multiply quickly and in great numbers, resulting in an overgrowth of parasites causing a parasite or yeast infection.

Medicines such as hormonal birth control pills and antibiotics can destroy the beneficial bacteria we need to keep yeast and parasites at bay. An overgrowth of parasites and yeast have been associated with certain chronic conditions, and if left untreated for a prolonged period of time can cause:

  • infertility or permanent fertility damage;
  • malnutrition;
  • vitamin deficiencies;
  • chronic fatigue;
  • skin conditions including eczema and psoriasis;
  • insomnia and sleep disturbances; and
  • digestive problems.

Citruses are great for cleansing, and as mentioned under immune boosters, they are also highly alkalizing for the body.

They are powerful detoxifiers and natural antibiotics that improve liver function, relieve constipation, help dissolve kidney and gall stones and can kill certain intestinal parasites.

Apple cider vinegar is an everyday home remedy that is effective in reducing excess parasite and yeast (which causes candida in women, although men do get yeast infection). Apple cider vinegar is not to everyone’s taste; so starting with a small dosage, like one teaspoon 30 mins before each meal and increasing to one tablespoon once you get used to the taste is a great way to keep parasites numbers down.

The population of bacteria in our gut should be balanced out and not destroyed as we do need good bacteria for digestion and other health giving properties. After a yeast or parasite infection has been treated or after a course of anti-biotics, we should replenish the gut with good bacteria. A good low fat yogurt or yogurt made with kefir is great for the probiotics that will help restore good gut bacteria. By supplementing your gut with probiotics, the balance between good and bad bacteria can be maintained and healthy gut function restored, keeping bad bacteria and parasites at bay.

Heavy Metal Flushes

25Aug

Modern day living also means we are inadvertently exposed to heavy metal toxicity from our environments, from the air we breathe, the foods we eat to even our toothpaste. Super-foods like spirulina and chlorella can naturally reduce heavy metal build up. Drinking lots of purified water is also one way of clearing the body of heavy metals, as is soaking exercising to sweat out the toxins. And after all that sweating, a throwing a handful of bentonite clay is a great way to further draw out toxins from your body.

Our kidneys like our liver is a vital elimination organ. They help rid our blood of toxins and helps us eliminate waste through our urine. Our vital organs can be overworked overloaded if we don’t help them along with juices that can aid their functions.
