MASTERING SLEEP

12Mar

A good night’s sleep helps our body restore and rejuvenate, grow muscle, repair tissue, and produce the hormones we need such as ghrelin and leptin, which control feelings of hunger and fullness. Some scientists have sought to link inadequate sleep with increased risk of obesity. Insulin, which is responsible for the regulation of glucose in the blood also changes due to inadequate sleep and can result in an increase in blood sugar level. For this reason, chronic sleep deficiency is also linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.

MASSAGE

12Mar

Body massages have been practised for thousands of years. Only in the recent years have the benefits of massages been recognised by many and nowadays, you would be hard pushed to meet someone who hasn’t had a massage in the past year.
Massage styles number more than 80 in total and each country or region practices its own specialty massage. Other than styles of massage, the amount of pressure varies and this depends if you are looking for relaxation, relieve symptoms or as part of a strategy to improve your health. Bali is, of course, the world capital of massage therapy.

TIRTA EMPUL TEMPLE

11Mar

This temple was founded around a fresh water spring in 962 AD. For over a thousand years, Hindus have been coming to Tirta Empul to cleanse and purify their mind and soul. This is a one of a kind experience where you can participate along with Hindu devotees from all over the world. Come offer up some flowers as an offering to Indra, the Hindu God that created the spring, and be purified from the blessings bestowed. This famous Balinese temple gets its name from Tirta, meaning holy water, and Empul, meaning gushing.

SIMPLE MEDITATIONS

11Mar

Meditation can be practised anywhere and you do not need to sit in any particular way or at all. Meditation requires oneself to be mindful of what we are doing, be it walking, painting or watching our breath, or concentrating on some scenery or picture.
Meditation helps us ground ourselves, and be present in the moment. It’s a way to free our minds from busy thoughts and conflicting emotions. There is no hard and fast rule as to how long one should meditate. Some people do it for 10 minutes every morning upon waking, or in the evening.
Of course, as we progress in the practice, we can go longer and deeper into our meditation.

OVERCOME LIMITING BELIEFS

11Mar

Beliefs that are limiting stop us from achieving or doing something for ourselves. Limiting beliefs may be formed from bad experiences or something we have been told as a child or reinforced during our adulthood.
To overcome a limiting belief, an enabling belief to replace the limiting belief is needed. The most simple and effective way is to play the role as if you already own the new enabling belief. Start with small parts. Do not set yourself up for failure by aiming for something big. Cutting down a quarter of your carbs and replacing it with vegetables and lean protein will create evidence of success that will spur you on.

NEGATIVE SELF-TALK

11Mar

Negative self-talk is self-sabotage and every one at some point will talk down themselves.
Negative self-talk limits our beliefs and prevents us from taking action to eat more healthily and being more active. It also prevents us from believing that we can do something about our body image. By immersing oneself with like-minded people and with guidance and encouragement, we can get to a starting place where we can take certain practical action towards re-constructing our own negative self-image. Come be guided by our Retreat Leader and share with others and learn from each other how to break free from negative self-talk.

CULTURAL DANCE

11Mar

Cultural dance performances have become synonymous with Bali. While some dances are meant to please the Gods during religious rites, performances like the Legong Dance are a treat for visitors of to Bali. These dances often depict tales from Hindu folklore like the Mahabarata and Ramayana. Balinese dances are as spectacular as they are captivating, the dancers co-ordinating eye, hands and feet in a series of quick movements.
Dancers sparkle in elaborate gold embroidered costumes and head dresses, accompanies by the Gamelan and other percussive instruments that are quintessentially Balinese.
There are many places in Ubud where you can experience Bali dance performances.
